Paws to Read encourages children to practice their reading skills by reading aloud to certified therapy dogs. Children may find it intimidating to read with peers, but love to read to the non-judgmental, calming therapy dogs. This partnership allows children to bolster their self-confidence, reduce reading anxiety and enjoy the experience of reading. Each 15-minute session will include a child, parent or guardian, a dog handler and a licensed therapy dog. Children read aloud for about 10 minutes followed by time to interact with the dog.
In-person sign up is required and available in the Kids & Family section starting at 3:00pm on the day of the event. Parent or guardian supervision is required during the entire reading session. Space is limited.
