Paws to Read encourages children to practice their reading skills by reading aloud to a certified pet therapy dog. Children may find it intimidating to read with peers, but love to read to the non-judgmental, calming therapy dog. This partnership allows children to bolster their self-confidence, reduce reading anxiety, and enjoy the experience of reading. Each 10-minute session will include a child, parent or guardian, a dog handler and a certified pet therapy dog. Sign up is required 30 minutes before the program starts. Space is limited.
In-person sign up is required and available at the Ask Desk starting at 3:00pm on the day of the event. Parent or guardian supervision is required during the reading session.
Provided in partnership with Love on a Leash and Canine Companions.
