Description

New York Times bestselling author Caitlin Rother will discuss and sign her new book, DOWN TO THE BONE, an investigative exploration of the McStay family murder case. Based on 12 years of research, Rother's book is full of new and exclusive details that have never been publicly disclosed.

In February 2010, Joseph and Summer McStay and their two young boys mysteriously vanished from their new home in Fallbrook, California, where they’d been living out of suitcases during a remodel. It seemed that they left in the middle of breakfast, with coffee in the pot, eggs and fruit on the counter, and popcorn in bowls for the kids. Their dogs were abandoned outside with no food and water, their bank accounts, cell phones, and credit cards were unused, and Summer didn’t take her prescription glasses or favorite Ugg boots. As the owner of an online waterfall company, Joseph typically stayed in contact with his two business associates, but neither they, nor his extended family, knew where he’d gone. For the next three years, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department investigated their disappearance as a missing person’s case. However, the lead detective ultimately gave up, declaring that the McStays had voluntarily gone to Mexico. Eight months later, the family’s skeletal remains were found in two shallow graves in the high desert near Victorville. But even after one of Joseph’s business associates was convicted and sent to death row, key questions remain unanswered.
